Ring Around a Tree | Total floor area: 146.98m2 | Constructor: Nichinan-Tekkou | Completion: 2011 | In 2007, the Tezuka Architects designed the Fuji Kindergarten in the western suburbs of Tokyo | Recently, the same architects have added a well welcomed addition to their already beautiful school, a Ring Around A Tree | And not just any tree, but a Japanese Zelkova tree, a favorite for climbing by local children for more than half a century | This epic tree is now at the center of a wonderful new cylindrical wood and glass building that will be used as the ultimate climbing and playing space, a foreign language classroom, a place for kids to hangout while waiting for the school bus and whatever else the teachers can think of.
