Shepard Fairey | Obey | Copenhagen | V1 Gallery
In late July of 2011, Shepard Fairey and his Obey team headed to Copenhagen for a solo exhibition at the V1 Gallery | These videos capture a behind the scenes look into the preparation for the show | The show itself was a huge success but a lot of crazy stuff happened along the way and these videos are a very honest look at the highs and lows of the experience.
‘Outside In’ Trailer
Filmmaker Alex Stapleton has just released the trailer for his latest movie project, Outside in | In conjunction with the first historical Arts in the Street exhibition at the Museum of Contempory Arts in Los Angeles, the documentary charts the creative process, pitfalls with the law and poetic impermanence of street art | The film features interviews with artist including Shepard Fairey, Geoff McFetridge, Swoon, Futura, Revok and Space Invader (the last two of whom were arrested at the opening) | Says Futura: “Ninety-nine percent of everything that I’ve ever painted is gone, it absolutely doesn’t exist. And if it wasn’t for someone documenting it, who would ever know it did?” | The film is coming to a website near you very soon…

Shepard Fairey | Obey to be Better!
Genius is a word that can be thrown around a little too easily | However, in our humble opinion, to this man it truly does apply | Introducing the American artist Shepard Fairey is a bit like explaining whose portrait he famously altered for the ‘Hope’ campaign that was widely used by Barack Obama’s supporters in 2008 | Since the mid 1980′s he has created outstanding (back in those day’s on the street) art that is strong, iconic and expressive | Fairey is also a thoughtful, committed, and outspoken activist who revives the artistic virtues of standing up for the freedom of speech and fighting for rational and non-corporate ways of dealing with the issue of copyright | This video is a short Obey interview held in Los Angeles in late 2010 | His screen print work is a massive inspiration to both boobosh® and our aesthetic | Plus with two daughters of a similar age to his, I can echo his thoughts on social and environmental responsibilty… Obey to be better indeed!
