JR | Pompidou Center | Paris

JR’s latest exhibition is currently running at the Pompidou Center from 23rd May to 5th September 2011 | JR has created an installation that combines all the tools from his new project, Inside Out, and makes them available in a photo booth | The idea of printing a poster – the aesthetic and formal medium used by the artist – is erected as a monumental artwork | A bindi – a symbolic and spiritual Indian symbol – is integrated into the visitor’s portrait | Inside Out is a large-scale participatory art project that transforms messages of personal identity into pieces of artistic work | Everyone is challenged to use black and white photographic portraits to discover, reveal and share the untold stories and images of people around the world | These digitally uploaded images will be made into posters and sent back to the project’s co-creators for them to exhibit in their own communities | People can participate as an individual or in a group; posters can be placed anywhere, from a solitary image in an office window to a wall of portraits on an abandoned building | These exhibitions will be documented, archived and viewable virtually at www.insideoutproject.net

Reflex Gallery | Icon Tattoo | Paris

On view through May 13th 2011, Icon Tattoo is trying to raise the stature of tattooing in art and push away from stereotypes | To be fair that is probably the aim of all tattoo related exhibitions, but here the focus is firmly on fashion making for a unique collection of photographs and objects | No big surprise that Nicola Formichetti’s recent Mugler campaign is highlighted, and there are also some sections devoted to tattoo photography and prep drawings | The Reflex Gallery, 62 Rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau, 75001, Paris.
